Mit einer ortsspezifischen Lichtinstallation von Mischa Kuball wird das Radialsystem ab Sommer 2025 erstmals dauerhaft auch aus der Ferne sichtbar.
Der LED-Schriftzug r a d i a l system leuchtet als kinetisches Lichtkunstwerk und markiert einen neuen künstlerischen wie architektonischen Bezugspunkt an der Fassade des Hauses. Die Arbeit, die am 25. Juli offiziell eingeweiht und erstmals zum Leuchten gebracht wird, bewegt sich zwischen „Kunst am Bau“ und sinnlich erfahrbarer Setzung im öffentlichen Raum.
Das Radialsystem – als ehemaliges Pumpwerk direkt an der Spree Ende des 19. Jahrhundert in Betrieb genommen – verbindet seit fast zwanzig Jahren als Kulturort Transformation und Kontinuität im Dialog mit internationalen und lokalen Künstlerinnen und Künstler, Ensembles und Publikum. Im Sinne von Mischa Kuballs künstlerischer Praxis, in der Licht als Medium für gesellschaftlichen Diskurs und ästhetische Intervention dient, begreift sich auch die Installation als visuelle Praxis des Mitteilens – offen, in Bewegung und sich in Beziehung setzend.

Unter dem Titel "When Cats Become Form" erzählt die Gruppenausstellung des kjubh Kunstvereins in Köln vom Erfindungsgeist und der Widerständigkeit der freien Kölner Kunstszene: Humorvolle Geschichten von Projekträumen, Plakaten und Katzen würdigen zwei Jahrzehnte unabhängiger Kunstinitiativen. Neben zahlreichen historischen Dokumenten, Plakaten, Flyern, Publikationen und Editionen wird auch Mischa Kuballs 2014 eigens für den Kunstverein entstandenes Nietenblatt gezeigt, welches den Kölner Archiveinsturz thematisiert.

With a site-specific light installation by Mischa Kuball, the Radialsystem will be permanently visible from afar for the first time from summer 2025.
The LED lettering r a d i a l system shines as a kinetic work of light art and marks a new artistic and architectural point of reference on the façade of the building. The work, which will be officially inaugurated and illuminated for the first time on July 25, is somewhere between “art in architecture” and a sensory experience in public space.
For almost twenty years, the Radialsystem - a former pumping station directly on the banks of the Spree that was put into operation at the end of the 19th century - has combined transformation and continuity as a cultural venue in dialog with international and local artists, ensembles and audiences. In the spirit of Mischa Kuball's artistic practice, in which light serves as a medium for social discourse and aesthetic intervention, the installation also sees itself as a visual practice of communication - open, in motion and in relation to one another.

Under the title “When Cats Become Form”, the group exhibition at the kjubh Kunstverein in Cologne tells of the inventiveness and resistance of Cologne's independent art scene: humorous stories of project spaces, posters and cats pay tribute to two decades of independent art initiatives. In addition to numerous historical documents, posters, flyers, publications and editions, Mischa Kuball's Nietenblatt, which was created especially for the Kunstverein in 2014 and focuses on the Cologne archive collapse, will also be on display.
